Last Lit Class: One More Thing

Hey girls,

Can everyone be at the Maka's at 10:00 rather than 10:15? That will be perfect timing for the movie (since right after the movie I need to leave).

Please leave a comment here so I know you got this news...

Literature: LAST CLASS!

Hey girlies!

Next Friday we'll be watching The Importance of Being Earnest. (There is a scene where one of the girls is daydreaming that I'll fast-forward, because there's some heavy kissing. Otherwise it's very clean. And funny!)

Please come on time - at 10:15 - and be prepared to stay until 12 if possible.

Sign up here to bring something breakfasty! (Can someone please bring orange juice or orange pineapple banana ... or something orangey and juicy?? :))

Love, Ally

P.S. History party: don't forget to meet at the Maka's at 9:30 on Wednesday for pictures and lunch in old town Frederick!! We'll be home at 2:30.

History

We will be having class at the Wikner's house this Wednesday. Since we started North and South (Elizabeth Gaskell) last week, Ellie volunteered her house for a tea party and staying late for whoever wants to finish the movie. Same time, 9:30 but probably won't be finished with the movie until 12:30 or 1. The staying late is optional....

Don't forget:
-your reading assignments
-take notes because i will be grading them
-your outline

:) Lauren

Literature: The Ten Commandments of Detective Fiction

Have fun with this list, girlies. :)

1. The criminal must be mentioned in the early part of the story, but must not be anyone whose thoughts the reader has been allowed to know.
2. All supernatural or preternatural agencies are ruled out as a matter of course.
3. Not more than one secret room or passage is allowable.
4. No hitherto undiscovered poisons may be used, nor any appliance which will need a long scientific explanation at the end.
5. No Chinaman must figure in the story.
6. No accident must ever help the detective, nor must he ever have an unaccountable intuition which proves to be right.
7. The detective himself must not commit the crime.
8. The detective is bound to declare any clues which he may discover.
9. The stupid friend of the detective, the Watson, must not conceal from the reader any thoughts which pass through his mind: his intelligence must be slightly, but very slightly, below that of the average reader.
10. Twin brothers, and doubles generally, must not appear unless we have been duly prepared for them.

Literature: homework due 5/1

Hey girlies,

Sorry this is coming so last minute -- but better late than never!

Homework:
1. I *believe* I told you to read chapters 1 - 8 in Hound of the Baskervilles. (Please leave a comment if I have the chapter numbers wrong.)

2. You are to begin work on your compare/contrast paper between two of the books we've read this year. The paper is to be 7 - 9 pages long, double-space typed, 12 pt font, Arial or Times New Roman. Official due date: May 8th. If you turn it in this Friday, you get bonus points!

3. We're going out! Don't forget to bring some cash!
